Temporary Accomm/Garage – Pt 8

Saturday morning I headed over to Blackball after a week back at Safety Nets and also two lots of paying guests. It was lovely weather in Coalgate but it was even hotter in Blackball. When I arrived Al and Neil were busy working on the carport roof and they were hot and weary but had made great progress in the 5 days since I had been gone. The building was all wrapped Al and Neil had the rafters up ready for the ply sarking.. Neil and I cut the plywood from Al’s measurements and passed them up to Al to fix in place. Once the plywood was in place then it was ready to put the purlins on and that was hard work in the heat. By the end of Saturday we had the building pretty much ready for the roof and cladding. We decided to stay in BB for the night and our neighbour’s Kay & Bryce kindly said we could use their place. So after sorting the doggies we went down to the BB Inn and met up with Neil & Dianne who éveryone’ in Blackball now know.

Sunday was another scorcher and more roof and high framing work to completed. First though Neil & I managed to stay in the shade for a bit while we put in some extra battens around the window and door framings ready for the cladding. It was a pretty draining day but we can’t complain (well we can as it was bloody hot!) as only we’ve only had maybe half an hour of rain since we started on the 24th Dec. We headed back to Bluespur for the night knowing that we only a few jobs to finish the next day before heading home.

Monday up at 7 as usual and at BB by 9 (as mentioned before we don’t want to upset anyone so 9-4 has been our building time). The final jobs today were allocated from the tasks on the whiteboard – I put on the structural brackets on the rafters, Neil trimmed the purlins and the carport fascia and Al did some finishing work to the cavity battens and outrigger framing.

It was such a great feeling to have all the jobs on the white board ticked off. Last job was to do a big site cleanup, restack the timber and sort out all the tools. Neil and Dianne were busy packing up their caravan, which we called the on-site security accommodation, while we loaded up up the cars ready to go home.

The next installment will be the window install : ) but we might sneak over to tick off a few non essential jobs. We will keep you updated.

Until next time take care everyone, Margie and Al
